Edward Echols, Virginia's lieutenant governor from 1898 to 1902, commissioned the construction of this Queen Anne style residence. Crafted from brick, stone, and half-timbering, the house features stacked gables, inviting porches, balconies, and a distinctive projecting turret adorned with an owl finial illuminated by gas lighting. The northeast garden of the house was designed by A. A. Farnham in 1934.
